More Features (Advanced)

Want to try some cool stuff (actually, you’ll be greatly contributing as this’ll help organize the site)? You can categorize your posts, send subjects other than the default “RVAMoBlog Post” etc.

Categorizing:

  • Within your phone’s, email client’s, whatever’s “subject” field, type the first three to four letters of the category with a colon. For example, if you want to categorize your pic/post within the “history” category, simply type in exactly (without the quotes, of course) “hist:” Easy!
  • Current categories (as of 8/25/07) are: Art, Community, Crime, Food, Funny, History, Media, Movies, Music, Politics, Schools, Sports, Technology. Feel free to let us know if you have any additional category suggestions.

Changing Your Subject:

  • Within your phone’s, email client’s, whatever’s “subject” field, type in your…you guessed it, SUBJECT! So, for example, if you want your pic/post to have the subject of “Shot of the James River” simply type that in to the subject field and it’ll show up, replacing the default “RVAMoBlog Post” subject.

Tagging Posts:

  • Possibly one of the coolest features of the site, registered users have the ability to tag various posts and submissions in an organized fashion. User submitted tags may be seen on this page. The more popular tags are darker, bolder and have a larger font while the others, um…don’t.
  • Simply log in to the site and you’ll see a small field and “+” button appear under each post.
  • Type in your tag (can be anything you want!) and click the “+” button.
  • Your tag will then show up to the right of the tag field.
  • In addition, your tag will also show up on the “user submitted tags” page.
  • And, you’ll feel great knowing you’re helping to organize the RVAMoBlog website!

Really Advanced Features:

  • FYI, you may also combine categories and subjects by placing a space between the category’s colon and the subject. For example: “Sch: UofR Campus” would be placed in the “schools” category and have the subject of “UofR Campus.”
  • If you want to get really bold, you can even post to multiple categories by doing the following: “Subject: [comm] [sch] [spo] B-Ball at The Diamond” would post within the “Community,” “Schools,” and “Sports” categories with a subject of “B-Ball at The Diamond.”

Flickr Users:

  • Want to post pics from your Flickr account? Check this page out then, within your Flickr account, add “http://rvamoblog.com/xmlrpc.php” for the link and “flickr” for the username and “flickme” for the password.

Nokia user or can’t use a subject field?

  • If your mail client doesn’t support setting the subject (nokia) you can do so by putting #your title here# at the begining of your message.
